You do not travel if you are afraid of the unknown, you travel for the unknown, that reveals you with yourself.

Arthur Prelle is a passionate world traveler who has voyaged extensively around the globe. His motivation for travel stems from his appreciation for diversity and culture, with each city offering a unique approach to life. For Arthur, traveling presents the opportunity broaden one’s horizons, specifically through the lens of a culture’s cuisine and the beauty of the surrounding environment.

Throughout his travels, Arthur has developed a passion for regional cuisine and has often times found himself trying to pull together a meal inspired by one he discovered while away. However, he admits that it can be quite challenging to do these delectable dishes justice without the local ingredients and proper experience. Although this may be due to his love for eating in hole-in-the-wall type restaurants. Arthur contends that the smaller, lesser-known restaurants are home to some of the best dishes in the world.

While traveling from the south of Spain to the Netherlands, the food was constantly delicious and nourishing. One of the best meals was prepared in the restaurant Jules Verne, which overlooks the Seine River and vistas of Paris. It offered an elegant six-course meal, starting with escargot in butter and tarragon. The chefs delivered creations with delicate textures and sublime flavor combinations that were amusing to both the eyes and taste buds.

Arthur also recalls entering a grocery store in Alhambra, Spain, and the overwhelming fresh smells in the air arising from the fruit, cheese, and meat. Compared to the detergent and cardboard small in many grocery stores in the United States, this Spanish store emitted delicious smells.

Arthur Prelle views traveling as a means for self-exploration and a source for unique experiences and unforgettable memories. As Mark Twain argued, “broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all of one’s lifetime.”

To that end, Arthur Prelle has traveled internationally to such places as Alhambra, Spain; Barcelona, Spain; Paris, France; Bordeaux, France; Toulouse, France; Brussels, Belgium; Brugge, Belgium; Kyoto, Japan; Tokyo, Japan, Nikko, Japan; Matsushima, Japan; Aruba; Bonaire; Curacao; Dominica; St. Kitts; and Antigua. Domestically, he has visited Phoenix, Sedona, Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Boston, and New York among others.

One of his greatest travel memories took place during a wintertime trip to Japan while visiting an outdoor hot spring at Shintsuta in Iwaki Yumoto Onsen, a Japanese-style hotel in Southern Fukushima. The hot spring is well-known for the healing properties of the natural sulfur found in the water. Arthur vividly remembers making the bracing walk in the chilly outdoor air to get to the hot spring. Once submerged in the comforting water, the sense started to soak in the surrounding environment — the area was designed to engage all the five senses. The beautifully manicured Japanese garden surrounding the hot spring accompanied by the falling snow excited the eyes; the sound of the rustling evergreens and the moving water aroused the ears; the cedar evoked great smells for the nose; the cool air on the face juxtaposed with the warm enveloping hot spring aroused the sense of touch; and the tea and sake available electrified the taste buds.

With his eyes on the road ahead, Arthur looks forward to the opportunity to add stamps to his passport. He is excited to visit England, Italy, India, Germany, and Portugal in the near future.

Professionally, Arthur Prelle serves as an independent investment manager, specializing in stocks, commodities, and options trading. He credits part of his success and general outlook on life to his experiences traveling the world. The opportunity to see other cultures and diverse world views has allowed Arthur to appreciate and discern more of what the United States has to offer. There are many luxuries and blessings that people take for granted in the United States, and traveling has put a lot of things in perspective for Arthur.
